FAQs
A collection of relevant frequently asked questions.
Where are these stones found and how?
The Aztlan stones are found in the state of Jalisco Mexico. There are several different regions where they are known to be found and have been known to be collected by local family lineages for generations. Some locations include mountain ranges where oral stories have mention of stones being found in cave systems, or commonly found buried beneath the earth where farmers find them when tilling their fields. .
How old are the stones?
The dating results of the Aztlan stones is continuing to prove to be an archaeological anomaly relative to the standard timeline of mesoamerican history. Several reputable archaeologists have conducted research revealing stones to date back to 8,200YA - 9,200YA. Carbon dating results show a span of 5,000 years in which these stones were being crafted. This time frame spans between roughly 6,000BCE and 1,000BCE.
How are they authenticated/dated ?
The dating method used on the Aztlan stones, which is widely used and effective in the field of archaeology is called radiocarbon dating, or C-14. This method is used to estimate the age of certain organic remains. Some of the Aztlan stones are composed of more than one material and have inlays, such as mosaics. These separate stones are held together by an adhesive which due to its organic composition is able to be tested. In the lab, samples of this ancient organic resin are utilized in the C14 dating process.
What material are they?
There are a variety of materials that are found in the composition analysis of the Aztlan stones. Most commonly we see relics made from stones which are rich in mineral composition equivalent to the surrounding bedrock of the geographical area. Serpentinite-Ophiocalcite & Agomatolite (Soapstone) are the most common. Some analyses have come back as ceramic, yet the majority are made from stone. Some have been tested by x-ray spectroscopy analysis and mysteriously zero parts of the stones composition contain elements from our periodic table of elements. These finding raise the question of whether some of these relics could potentially consist of otherworldly composition. Results like these add to the mystery and anomaly of the Aztlan stones.
What other archaeological findings are coming from this geographic area?
In the surrounding areas, there are several other archaeological remains that indicate there was an ancient population once habitating these lands. Not far from where the Aztlan stones are unearthed there are ruins, which are preserved and open to the public. It is also very common to find the remains of smaller structures, potentially ancient homesteads. Unearthing of ancient pottery, arrowheads, and beads is common in the surrounding lands.
How many stones have been found?
The number of Aztlan stones that have been found and made known to the public, are in the thousands. This spans multiple collections, however all are found in a similar geographic region.
What about replication?
Replication of archaeological findings is a prevalent issue in almost every culture worldwide. From our findings and artistic analysis (after viewing thousands of stones from this geographic area) we have yet to see direct replication of any one image or compilation of images on two separate stones. This signifies a large variety of ancient artisans and timeframes that the Aztlan stones may have been created. This does not however negate the potential of modern artisans being influenced by an ancient artform.
The views and information presented here are an accumulation of 8 years of research asking ourselves the same questions, inspiring further investigation to verify this ancient history by the use of modern authentication & C-14 dating standards.
